Susan Melkus on Truth, Schism, and Jesus Christ

Comments Off on Susan Melkus on Truth, Schism, and Jesus Christ

If you have “your truth” and I have “my truth” and for some reason we disagree, and go start our own ‘churches’ … where exactly does Jesus (The TRUTH) fit into the picture?

Keith Mathison on “Solo” Scriptura

Comments Off on Keith Mathison on “Solo” Scriptura

All appeals to Scripture are appeals to interpretations of Scripture. The only real question is: whose interpretation? People with differing interpretations of Scripture cannot set a Bible on a table and ask it to resolve their differences. In order for the Scripture to function as an authority, it must be read and interpreted by someone. According to “solo” Scriptura, that someone is each individual, so ultimately, there are as many final authorities as there are human interpreters.

Taylor Marshall on Mary as Co-Redemptrix

Adam = Peccator
Eve = Co-Peccatrix

Adam was responsible for it all, but Eve sure did play a part in it, didn’t she?

Jesus = Redemptor
Mary = Co-Redemptrix

Jesus was responsible for it all, but Mary sure did play a part in it, didn’t she?

Rt Rev Mgr Canon Moyes, D.D. on the Glory of Mary

Comments Off on Rt Rev Mgr Canon Moyes, D.D. on the Glory of Mary

If the reward which our God has prepared in heaven for even the least soul that enters there is above all that eye hath seen or the heart of man can conceive, it is plain that all that Catholic preachers or writers have ever said or written about the glory with which God (the Son) has crowned His Mother (the Mother of God – Theotokos), so far from being excessive, must ever fall utterly short of that reality.

Dr. Jeff Mirius on Catholic claims as regards Authority and Revelation

Comments Off on Dr. Jeff Mirius on Catholic claims as regards Authority and Revelation

There are plenty of reasons to be a Catholic, and the mix of motivations can have as many variations as there are people. For me, however, the very first reason that comes to mind is that Catholicism is the only religion in the entire world that has a logical and consistent approach to the problem of Revelation….Even the Protestant reliance on the Book provides no guide to the Book’s interpretation, as the incessant splintering of Protestantism itself attests. Because a principle of authority is essential to Revelation, and because only the Catholic Church makes a clear and consistent claim to such authority, something very important follows. What follows is not that the Catholic Church must be right, but that the Catholic Church is the only religion which advances a credible claim.

Thomas Merton on Despair

Comments Off on Thomas Merton on Despair

Only the man who has had to face despair is really convinced that he needs mercy. Those who do not want mercy never seek it. It is better to find God on the threshold of despair than to risk our lives in a complacency that has never felt the need of forgiveness. A life that is without problems may literally be more hopeless than one that always verges on despair.
